The Lastovo Archipelago is a collection of 46 islands, the four main ones of which are Lastovo, Susac, Prezba and Mrcara. Lastovo is amongst the most remote inhabited islands in the Adriatic sea, and is a part of the central Dalmatian island group that also includes Vis, Brac, Hvar, Korcula and Mljet, amongst others. The Lastovo archipelago experience sunny, warm Mediterranean summers. Receiving around 2,700 sunshine hours per year, Lastovo ranks among the sunniest locations in the Adriatic, making these islands an idyllic holiday destination. It is also a nature park, as designated by the Croatian government in 2006.

Lastovo

Lastovo, for which the archipelago is named, is of course the largest of the group. It is noted for its 15th and 16th Century Venetian architecture. There are also a number of pretty Roman Catholic churches – more than you might expect to find on an island of this size. It is Lastovo's natural and stunning scenery, however, that is the main draw for tourists. The island has a dynamic landscape of hills and karstic fields, with a steep, rugged coastline. The geology of this island is fascinating and there are a number of caves: Raca, Pozalica, Puzavica, Grapceva and Medvidina. There is an abundance of life on the island and in the seas surrounding it. The sub-marine life around Lastovo is said to be the richest in the entire Adriatic. It is a popular diving location for this reason.

Susac

Susac, which means 'dry island, is a small rocky island to the south west of Lastovo. There are no direct ferries to this little island so you must travel there in your own boat or arrange for someone to take you there independently. Access to Susak is usually easiest to arrange from Vela Luka on the island of Korcula. Susac is a famous scuba diving location and is perfect for those who are looking for a get-away-from-it-all sort of holiday. There is a lighthouse here, which is the only accommodation option on the island, a beach, a pine forest and plenty of sheep, so don't come here looking for lots of attractions and excitement. Do come here if you want to relax in an idyllic, calm and peaceful setting.

Prezba

Prezba is a small, uninhabited island that is linked to Lastovo by a bridge from the village of Pasadur, to the north-west of Lastovo. This island has a very crinkled coastline with lots of coves and bays – perfect for exploration by boat. You can stroll to the highest peak, which is 136 m, or to the lighthouse which shines its light out across the bay towards Uble on Lastovo.

Mrcara

This small, uninhabited island is found to the west of Lastovo. There is a small jetty on the island and a little restaurant that caters to people with private vessels. The scent of rosemary fills the air on this lush and unspoiled island. There are just a few places to stay on this island, which helps to keep it tranquil and not overcrowded. You can stay in a house or a cabin, and back to basics camping is also possible.

The Lastovo Archipelago – perfect for a relaxing and quiet Holiday.
