Magic surrounds many of the ice sculpture festivals which are held all over the world. You will find even the countries with severe weather experiences are hosting the festivals. Japan's largest snow festival attracts millions of visitors from all over the world, this is held for 7 days every February. It is held in 3 major venues, Susukino, Tsu Dome and Odori Park. You will see how beautiful the ice sculptures are and how spectacularly clever and creative they are also, everything is associated with ice here which means Ice bars, animals and iconic Japanese Hello Kitty, historic sculptures and many more. I would recommend booking well in advance here as it is highly popular.
Bruges, Belgium
The beautiful town of Bruges hosts a snow and ice festival each November to early January. At this fantastic festival you will get to see professional ice sculptors from around the world come here to carve an ice sculpture all based on a theme. In 2013 the theme was based on the Disney movie frozen and it was magnificent.
Harbin, China
Harbin is the one of the biggest ice sculpture festivals in the world. Early January until late February it runs. Harbin is known as the Ice city and not just because of its sculptures, because it is also severely cold here. The sculptures here are immense. Nearby you can see Siberian tigers and lions roaming freely.
Lake Khovsgol Ice Festival, Mongolia
This event is held every March and is a little different from most festivals, there are many activities to do like: ice speed skating competitions, Fancy ice sumo and many more.
Russia
St Petersburg, Moscow and other areas host numerous festivals each year, which is aimed at achieving a place in the World Ice Art Sculpting Competition. Visit Gorky Park, it is a great venue and a there are many Christmas Ice sculpture festivals all over there.
There are many more countries that have ice sculpture festivals like Alaska, Poland, Sweden Latvia and France.
All the ice festivals can be combined with other activities like ice road trucking, skiing and many more. Day or night in all these different countries, there is nothing that can take away the magic of seeing these amazing ice sculptures.
