If you are trying to decide where in the world to go for your next camping adventure then why not consider the wild wonders of Yellowstone National Park? Yellowstone National Park, mostly in the state of Wyoming, is one of the most popular National Parks in the United States and it is very easy to see why. With geological wonders, wildlife galore, beautiful scenery and a landscape perfect for outdoors adventure, it is no wonder than so many people choose to visit this astounding area each year.

There are plenty of choices when it comes to choosing a place to pitch in Yellowstone National Park. There are twelve official campgrounds in the park, five of which can be reserved in advance and seven of which operate on a first-come-first-served basis. Then, of course, there is a whole world of backcountry to explore in which you can wild camp if you wish. Even though the number of visitors each year is so high, there is so much space here that you need never feel crowded or hemmed in.

In most of the park you can camp for up to 14 days between 1st July and Labor Day and for the rest of the year you can camp for up to 30 days, though there is no limit at Fishing Bridge. So you can take your time and discover a lot of the natural highlights of this region. Note that many campsites in the park are not accessible or open during the winter months, though there are camping options year round. Whether you go for a campsite with all mod cons or go back to basics in the wilds is entirely up to you. Yellowstone has a pitch to suit every camper.

One of the most popular campgrounds in the park is Canyon Campground. This can get filled up quickly so be sure to book well in advance, especially in peak season, and don't expect it to be quiet. It can get a little noisy but the pitches are set in the most beautiful scenery and the site is well situated to explore some of Yellowstone's main attractions.

If you would like to try some backcountry camping then get the advice of park Rangers who will be able to help and advise you on all camping related issues. One amazing backcountry location s Shoshone Lake, which is a favourite with kayakers and hikers but has something for everyone. Reach the area by way of the Lonestar Geyser or DeLacy Creek Trails. Some of the camping spots can only be reached by kayaking across the lake - the perfect way to experience true isolation and truly experience the grand wildness of the place.

Yellowstone really is one of the best camping destinations there is. Be sure to follow all advice given by the park rangers and take necessary precautions to protect yourself from bears. Keep food in lockers provided and change clothes that have been worn while preparing food, to make sure you do not attract the creatures. If you are sensible, you need not fear the wilds. Embrace them, and you may well find that you have the adventure of a lifetime.
